The purpose of the Worship and Arts Council is to provide meaningful regular and special worship services at Windwood in accordance with the Book of Order and in consideration of the needs of the congregation.  Among its responsibilities are the music program, audio/visual team, sacraments, sanctuary flowers, greeters and ushers, memorials, and wedding coordination.

As many as three floral arrangements can be placed in the Worship Center on Sunday mornings in memory or in honor of loved ones or special occasions.  If you would like to provide an arrangement, please sign up at the Welcome Desk.  Arrangements can either be taken home after the last service or donated to be taken to shut-ins or to convalescent centers.

Strategic Initiative:  To develop a worship experience that brings out the heart of worship in all attendees. Believers model worship for non-believers through worship, prayer and discipleship. We pray that attendees would recognize that worship is an encounter with God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Goal 1:  Models of Worship Leadership
  • Identify and evaluate the various roles within the worship service and develop expectations and training plans for equipping leaders to effectively model worship for the congregation and other leaders
  • Establish expectation that leaders are committed to worship
  • Develop a recruiting process to acquire new leaders

Leadership includes: Choir, Ushers, Elders, Deacons, Liturgist, Ministers, and Staff. Courses should be identified and aligned with W&A core values and with Adult Ministries and Discipleship Ministry

Goal 2:  Encourage and model prayer

  • Develop a plan to make confession a more significant part of worship service
  • Create opportunities for leaders to model prayer and worship in all places (equip leaders to feel comfortable in prayer situations)
  • Develop a plan for a prayer time to pray for worship service
  • Communicate the purpose of the prayer time to the congregation

Goal 3:  Heighten awareness of the significance of the sacrament of Holy Communion

  • Increase frequency and reverence of communion
    • Should be an integrated part of the service
    • Potential to ‘hold’ elements and take as a community – body of Christ, sense of community
  • Use opportunities in worship service to explain the meaning of communion
    • Use Confirmation classes, new member & discipleship classes to educate, also drama skits
  • Ensure a seamless transition between the message and communion

Goal 4:  Evaluate worship service styles, content, presenters and schedule.

  • Create a task force to evaluate:
    • Styles of worship service
    • Content of services (traditional sermons, guest speakers, other churches)
    • Feasibility of increasing/decreasing number of worship services, times of service and duration of worship services
  • Establish a forum for sermons to be delivered by guest speakers – bring in guest speakers to address specific topics

Worship service focus is an encounter with God.  Balance the multiple speakers and ensure their message is consistent with our views and values.  If service times are changed there is an immediate impact to Sunday School and other programs, look at it as a whole and not in a silo.

Goal 5:  Ensure excellence in corporate worship and enhance the setting for an encounter with God

  • Evaluate quality of worship service with a critical eye to how visitors see Windwood and in context of bringing our first fruits to everything we do as part of worship
  •  Develop and implement a quality assurance process to continuously review all aspects of the worship experience
  •  Consider creation of a worship director / quality control position
Goal 6: Utilize the various aspects of the current music and drama ministry to create a robust music and arts ministry that is an integral part of worship
  • Develop a vision for the overall Music and Arts Ministry
  • Develop a music program that seamlessly integrates traditional and contemporary music into a cohesive worship style for Windwood
  • Identify and hire a part-time Assistant Music Director/Organist
  • Review and prioritize capital items ‘wish list’ to identify items that will enhance worship service and excellence
  • Develop music and arts procedures and include in W&A Guidelines

Goal 7:  Provide a framework for the Windwood facility to fulfill the needs of the congregation, the Adventure School and other community outreach opportunities

  • Develop Facility Use Guidelines
    • Create Facility Use Guidelines for facilities and amenities that describe appropriate use by members, ministries, and our community; allow our Operations Officer to respond to scheduling \requests on a daily basis.
  • Define Vision and Mission for Property Board
    • Write vision and mission statements for the Property Board that aligns with Strategic Plan / Worship Initiative and overall WPC Vision and Mission statements.
  • Establish Property Information Library
    • Establish documentation and procedures for maintaining a Property Information Library
