FALL SERMON SERIES

“Fan the Flame”

Aug. 22 – Fan the Flame:  II Timothy 1:1-14
Aug. 29 – Fully Devoted:  Acts 2:42-47
Sept. 5 – United We Stand:  I Corinthians 3:1-15

Sept. 12 – New Creatures in Christ                II Corinthians 5:16-21

Finding all your faults and fixing all your faults is time consuming, frustrating, and finally, not what God has called us to do.  We do not need to fix our lives, we need whole new lives; we must learn to die to our old self and let the new self in Christ come to life!  As a Christian, you are a new creation.  Come and find out how to let the new you have the victory!

Sept. 19 – Spiritual Gifts, Part 1                     I Corinthians 12:1-11

Just what are “spiritual gifts”?  How do they differ from natural talents?  How do I know which ones I have?  Are we sure this still applies today?  Join us as we get informed about the gifts that God has promised to give His church.

Sept. 26 – Spiritual Gifts, Part 2                     I Corinthians 12:1-11

Are these all the spiritual gifts there are?  What if I don’t like the gift I’ve been given?  Can I ask God for a different gift?  Am I supposed to find others with my same gift/gifts?  Come and find out what God wants us to do with our gifts!

Oct. 3 – Whatever Became of Sin?                I Corinthians 6:9-20

Fan the flame – the flame of what?  There was a time, not so long ago when we were warned against fanning the flame of passion.  Whatever became of the “sins of the flesh?”  Does morality matter any more?  It does to God!  Join us as we consider what flames we should be fanning!

 Oct. 10 – Marriage and Family                       I Corinthians 7:1-17

Marriage and the family are the backbone of any and every society, yet both institutions have seriously suffered in America.  What was (is) God’s intend for marriage and the family?  How can we get back a passion for strong, healthy, and happy marriages and families?  The challenges are not new, and neither are the answers, but it is high time we understand them again.

Oct. 17 – The Role of Women, Part 1                        I Corinthians 11:1-16

What is the role of women, in the family, in the church, in society?  What does Paul mean when he argues that women should have their heads covered in worship because of the angels?  What is the role of men, in the family, in the church, in society?  How are they related?  Join us as we consider what God’s Word has to say to us about these critical issues!

Oct. 24 – The Role of Women, Part 2                        I Corinthians 11:1-16

You didn’t think we could handle all the above in one sermon?  We will continue to consider how we can see God’s choice of making mankind in his image, “male and female” he created them, was a gift, not a curse!

Oct. 31 – Passionately Worshipping What?   I Corinthians 10:1-13

Few of us have a small carved stone statue we offer sacrifices to anymore.  Paul’s warning about idolatry is for a time long gone – or is it?  Join us as we discover the idolatry of our own generation, and how passionately we worship other gods – and how we can return that proper worship to the proper person – Jesus Christ!

Nov. 7 – Surrendering Rights             I Corinthians 9:1-14

Few things provoke more passionate debates than our “rights.”  But just what are our rights as Christians and how should we be using them?  Can we be passionate in pursuit of rights – our own or those of others – and still find shalom (peace and prosperity)?  Join us we consider the conflicting claims of life.

Nov. 14 – Bill Taylor:  Guest preacher

Nov. 21 – Love: The More Excellent Way     I Corinthians 13:1-13

God loves us whole heartedly – passionately.  We are called to love in the same way.  Just what is that passionate love of God like?  Love is more than emotion, but it includes emotion, too.  Join us as we consider Paul’s “more excellent way.”

First in the Christmas Series

“The Lights of Christmas”

Nov. 28 – Light in the Darkness         Isaiah 9:1-7

“The people who waked in darkness have seen a great light…”  Isaiah was describing the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali, but it is an apt description of many more than that.  Jesus is that light; what darkness does he need to shine on in your life?

Dec. 5 – Heavenly Light                     Matthew 2:1-12

Why send a star to guide the wise men?  When we think of heaven, are we thinking of the stars in the sky or the dwelling place of God and the angels?  Just what “heavenly light” are we looking for at Christmas time?

Dec. 12 – Light of the World             John 1:1-18

Jesus is the light of the world; yet the world knew him not.  What do you do when the ultimate Christmas gift goes unwrapped?  How can we bring the light of God to the world that still has a hard time seeing him?

Dec. 19 – Light of Life                       John 8:12-20

Jesus said he was the light of the world and those who followed him would no longer walk in darkness but would have the light of life.  Just what does “the light of life” mean?  What did it mean then, and what does it mean now?  How can we brighten up Christmas this year?

Dec. 24 – The Light of Christmas      Luke 2:1-21

The “lights of Christmas” are many and varied, yet there is one light that outshines them all.  Join us to celebrate the true “light of Christmas” that we might give Him the Christmas gift He deserves – humble hearts, filled with gratitude and praise!  Happy Birthday, Jesus!
