Music in Worship at Windwood Presbyterian Church
We acknowledge God, as creator of the universe, to be the "ultimate" composer and musician.  Therefore, we hold fast to the idea that all styles of music that have been written to honor and praise the Lord are valid for worshipping Him (because they are inspired by Him), and we will not separate the body of Christ by worship style.  We also acknowledge that everyone has different preferences, and are moved by different kinds of music.  So, we choose to not limit ourselves to any one style, (i.e., "traditional" or contemporary") or seek for a "balance" that is artificially manufactured.

Instead, we believe that music in worship should be chosen for how well it supports the theme of the day, and utilizes the talents of those whom God has placed in our church body

Music is a gift from God and the scriptures are filled with references to singing and music.  So, we make music not only because we love to, we do it because we are called to.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
Burst into jubilant song with music;
Make music to the Lord with the harp,
With the harp and the sound of singing,
With trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn --
Shout for joy before the Lord the King!
- Psalm 98:4-6
No matter what your ability, there is a place you can get involved in the music ministry at Windwood.  Not only is the ministry about making music, but it is also a place to serve, have fun, and find fellowship in a unique way.

The Windwood Chancel Choir, under the direction of Bob Vandervliet, is a place for anyone who loves to sing.  While it is helpful to have some music reading ability, it is not required. The choir prepares a range of music from many of the great composers of the past to brand new choral anthems written today.

The Chancel Choir provides special music almost weekly in Sunday services from the middle of August to the end of June, as well as prepares music for special events such as our annual Christmas concert.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. in the Choir Room.  For more information, contact Bob Vandervliet by email or call 281-257-7860, ext. 6865.

A.I.M. (Adventures in Music)

Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord!

A Gift to Bring....Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."  What does a child have to give? A child can bring to choir a voice that is oly his. No one else has a voice like his.  A child can bring energetic movement, and no other body moves exactly like his. A child can bring a creative imagination , and no one else has the same creative ideas exactly like his. Thus, each child has been given a unique gift by our Almighty Creator that only he or she can share with others and return as Worship to our God.

Under the direction of Julie Vandervliet, children learn how to lead and participate in worshiping and making music in various ways.  This group meets on Sundays from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.  Contact Julie Vandervliet by email or by calling the church office (281-257-7860).

Drama Ministry
Under the direction of Jeanan Jackson, this group is a network of performers dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through drama and comedy. If you have a passion for drama, we want to know you.  Contact Jeanan Jackson.

Windwood Handbell Choirs

The Windwood Bells
is a group of moderately advanced ringers and music reading ability is required.  They provide special music in Sunday services on a monthly basis from the middle of August to the end of June, as well as prepare music for other special events.  Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 - 7:30 p.m. in the Worship Center.  Contact Bonnie Hehli
for more information.

The Joy Bells
is a group of folks who are interested in learning to ring handbells, and rehearse bell music for that purpose; and occasionally present special music in Sunday services.  Rehearsals are held on Monday events from 6:15 - 7:30 p.m. in the Worship Center.  Contact Bonnie Hehli for more information.

Planning for an instrumental ensemble has begun -- we hope to begin in the fall of 2004.  If you play an instrument on a moderate to advanced level, we want to know.  Contact Bob Vandervliet by email or call 281-257-7860, ext. 6865.

Under the direction of Bob Vandervliet, A Servant's Heart is a community of singers and instrumentalists who have a passion for leading our congregation in contemporary worship music.  Singers may be of all abilities, but instrumentalists are auditioned.

A Servant's Heart leads music or provides special music 2-3 Sundays per month throughout the year.  Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 7:25 p.m. in the Choir Room.  Contact Bob Vandervliet by email or call 281-257-7860, ext. 6865.

Youth
Youth, grades 10 and higher, are welcome to participate in all adult music ensembles.
