“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” --Jeremiah 29:11
Did You Know?
Did you know that, according to the last US census, the population within a 10 mile radius of Windwood is 1,198,021 people? That translates to 929,838 adults, 268,183 children, and 183,238 married households. Of those, 6,963 couples were nearing divorce (3.8%), 114,926 adults had anxiety disorders (18%), 34,044 were diagnosed with major depressive disorders (7%), and 18,478 children with mental disorders (13%). Within that radius, there are 60 Christian counselors with a capacity of seeing 8,000 people annually. That’s why those counselors will tell you that there is no “competition” amongst Christian counselors—the need far exceeds the capacity!
In answer to that need, God has raised up A Future and a Hope Ministries at Windwood. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God’s plan for us - wholeness and healing in our lives through His love and grace. Jesus came that we might have forgiveness and healing and hope! And when we realize our lives are broken and hurting, the first thing we need is hope. And that’s the first thing provided in Christian counseling!
A Future and a Hope Ministries
God has been growing a Christian counseling ministry at Windwood over the last few years. He started that through the pastoral counseling Pat Ryan was doing at Windwood. As she completed her doctorate of ministry degree in counseling, God was raising up members of our congregation who wanted to join with her in meeting those needs. That ministry has grown now to include 14 different Christian counselors who have completed their training and are seeing an average of 24—26 people a week, giving them hope and help from the Lord! The ministry works in the areas of individual, marriage, and family counseling. And with the use of technology, people from all over the country, and even from around the world, are able to access Christian counseling. Are people interested? Yes, they are, because unlike secular counseling, with God, hope and healing is always possible. God does the healing; our counselors just assist people in making that connection! It turns out that God’s Word, God’s truth, prayer, and God’s grace and power can heal hearts and homes far better than our own efforts! That ministry has grown (and is still growing) so much, that it needs more room!
A Place for Healing
The Session is pleased to announce that the plans are ready for building the building for the counseling ministry at Windwood! As the need and the ministry have grown, so has the need for more room, and better space, to be able to provide for this vital ministry in our community.
Why Now? Three Reasons
As you can see by the numbers, the need for Christian counseling is great and growing. Without any advertising other than people passing the word, this ministry has grown, and we need a place where people can come and go without being in the middle of all kinds of other activities. God has provided plenty of space for us to build a facility, and quite frankly, we need some space designed for a counseling ministry.
We also finally have clear title to all of our property. For several years that was in dispute, but Windwood clearly, and will always, control the facilities on our campus, dedicated to the worship and honor of Jesus Christ alone!
And finally, the plans are ready! It has taken longer than we had foreseen, but as you can see, the plans are ready, and the space is ready, and the ministry is ready! The time is now!
We need the financing. The total cost of the building project is $200,000 and as we recently refinanced the church mortgage, the Session believes that we can build this facility, not by increasing our loan, but by the direct giving of the congregation! The Session is asking for you to prayerfully consider contributing to building this building, debt free, this summer! Over the next four weeks, we are asking you to give as you feel led, so that we may have the money in the bank by the end of May, allowing us to sign the contract with the builder and see the building completed this summer! Approximate construction time is 90 days. We believe the time is now to get this facility built and ready for the next school year. We invite you to be a part of bringing that message of a future and a hope for this fall!
